OP Sense - A control system for a robot assisted Operation Theatre
Heinz Wörn
Karlsruhe Institute of Technology
Abstract:
A defined workflow which is on-line interpreted controls the OP. The architecture of the system will be presented: central control, supervision with sensors, the LBR -robots with a own developed controller for all modes, a haptic interface,a image processing and planning system. An important component is the KUKA LBR robot, with a new FRI (fast research interface) over which
it will be controlled autonomously, teleoperated by a haptic interface and by hands-on mode.
Bio:
Professor Wörn studied electrical engineering at the University of Stuttgart. He obtained his Ph.D. at the Institute for Control of Machine Tools and Manufacturing Equipment of the same university for his work "Multiprocessor control system for machine tools with standardized interfaces". He then worked in industry for KUKA Schweißanlagen und Roboter GmbH where he advanced to a leading position in research and development. Professor Wörn is an internationally acknowledged expert in robotics and automation. His expertise includes robot applications, robot controls, sensors for robots and programming and simulation of robotic installations. Since 1997 he heads the Institute for Process Control and Robotics at the University of Karlsruhe as Professor for "Complex Systems in Automation and Robotics".
Professor Wörn's research interests include industrial robots, medical robots, service and humanoid robots, micro-swarm robots, sensors and sensor processing, human-robot-interaction.
